About the event
For an outreach exhibition “Talking About Things” (working title), which is scheduled to open on December 12, 2024, the MARKK is looking for artists or social designers who will design, accompany and spatially design the participation process and the exhibition itself . For the exhibition, MARKK would like to open its collections to urban society. We invite people from a wide range of professional and social backgrounds and biographies to select objects from the diverse and global collections for an exhibition. The focus is on the range of emotional relationships between people and things, in which topics such as beauty, identity, gaps in collections, histories of violence and ambivalences of our institution are discussed. This participatory and experimental exhibition aims to bring personal and untold stories into the museum space.
We would like, among other things, methodical support to get in touch with the broadest possible audience and to address new groups of visitors. A familiar and creative approach to design methods is required in order to open up social spaces. Our goal is the conception and realization of the exhibition design, room staging, the graphics of the exhibition and a small catalog. The exhibition will focus on get-together moments in which barriers are reduced and a lively atmosphere is created. The call is aimed at social designers or artists with experience in participatory projects ( community art ) who use experimental methods and follow a diversity-sensitive and intersectional approach. It is possible to apply as a group. Work with the curatorial team begins in January. Longer and regular stays in Hamburg are necessary. Knowledge of the German language is an advantage, but not a requirement.
